The emptiness in the driveway was a stark reminder of his blunder. Mark, a man known for his sharp tongue, found himself strangely composed. He thought of the new family next door with the two young children. He’d seen them struggling to make ends meet. He had seen the father doing odd jobs.

At the tow lot, a young man with a weary expression handled the paperwork. Mark listened without interrupting, allowing the man to explain the situation calmly. He was careful to ask questions politely. He did not let the frustration mount.

When he finally got his car back, Mark spoke to the young man. "It's a tough job," he said. He gave him a small, folded bill as he left. He took the time to make sure that the young man knew he was appreciated.
