Gemotions

The rhythmic clack of the ice skates against the rink echoed in Leo’s ears. He wasn’t selected for the junior hockey team. He felt a tremor of sadness. He spotted Daniel, his friend, who had made the cut, across the rink, grinning ear to ear. He saw the pure elation on Daniel’s face.

Instead of retreating, Leo laced up his skates. The ice felt like glass beneath his blades. He skated towards Daniel, offering a genuine smile. "Congrats, Daniel," he said, his voice a little raspy. "You deserve it." Daniel looked momentarily stunned, then grinned. "Thanks, Leo," he replied, clapping Leo on the back.

"Maybe you can teach me some of your new moves," Leo suggested, trying to lighten the moment. He knew the disappointment would linger, but he was relieved to see Daniel so excited. He chose to channel his energy into supporting his friend's triumph.
