"The Cozy Corner is closing," the email blared. Sarah almost dropped her phone. A pang of something unpleasant struck her gut. She’d spent countless hours there, sipping lattes and reading. It was where she met her best friend, Emily.

She immediately texted Emily. "Meet me at The Cozy Corner?" An hour later, they sat at their usual table. Sarah, usually so chatty, felt strangely subdued. She noticed the barista, Mark, looking despondent. She impulsively ordered a double shot of espresso for him, even though she knew he’d probably be upset. It seemed right.
