Gemotions

The dim light cast long shadows as David climbed the creaking stairs. He’d never ventured up here before. Now, it was time to clear out the attic. The previous owners left behind a mess.

He started with a box of old children's books. He looked through them, and noticed the inscriptions. A child’s name, and a message on each one: “To my darling Sarah.” He imagined the father, the giver of books.

He carefully put the books in a separate box, knowing he would make every effort to track down the family. He wanted to give them these treasures. It was the decent thing to do.
