The calendar screamed at Elara. Two conflicting events. Liam's massive backyard barbecue and Chloe's intimate gallery showing. Elara loved both of them immensely. She sighed, her shoulders slumping.

She spent the week flitting between frantic energy and deep dejection. How could she possibly choose?

She went to the art gallery. Chloe beamed when she arrived, her eyes lighting up. Elara browsed the artwork, taking a moment to appreciate the details. She bought a small, delicate watercolor that she thought would remind Chloe of a beautiful, summer day.

Then, she quietly slipped away. At Liam’s party, the smell of grilling meat and the boisterous laughter filled the air. She helped serve the food, making sure everyone had a cold drink and a full plate.
