Gemotions

The microphone felt surprisingly heavy in Amelia's hand. She glanced at her mother, radiant in a floral dress, her eyes crinkling at the corners. Amelia took a deep breath. This was important. She had practiced this speech, rewritten it a dozen times, but now, facing the room filled with familiar faces, the words seemed inadequate.

She started, her voice a little shaky, thanking everyone for coming. Then, she spoke about her mother's career, the long hours, the dedication. As she talked about the sacrifices made, a warmth spread through her chest. She found herself smiling, genuinely. She shared a funny story about a particularly challenging project, the way her mother had handled it with grace and a wry sense of humor.

Her voice softened when she spoke of her father, her words overflowing, describing how her mother had always put everyone else first. "She’s the reason we have so much to be thankful for." She felt a lump form in her throat, the air thick with sentiment. She finished with a simple, heartfelt wish for a happy retirement, her eyes welling up with happy tears.
