Gemotions

The basement, damp and musty, held the scent of aged paper and untold secrets. Martha, rummaging through a box of old photographs, stumbled upon one that stopped her breath. Her mother, always presented as reserved and demure, was in the picture, a whirlwind of energy in a bright red dress, dancing with a man who was clearly not her father. Martha felt her face relax, a softening she hadn't anticipated. She slowly closed her eyes, and tried to picture the music that was playing. She knew, then, that she had to show her mom.
