He looked so defeated, slumped against the back wall, hands in his pockets. Mark couldn't help but feel a swell of… warmth. "Hey," Mark began, feeling the urge to say something that would lighten the mood, "remember that time we got locked out of the office on the weekend?"

He chuckled, the sound echoing a bit in the confined space. He pulled out a crumpled bag of chips from his briefcase and offered it to her. "Want some? Might as well." He didn’t particularly feel like eating, but he thought maybe the sound of crunching would be a distraction.

He listened patiently while she spoke about her upcoming project deadline, nodding sympathetically when she described her stress. He took his jacket off and folded it, offering it to her when she shivered. “Here. It can be cold in here after a while."
