“Unsolved case, I’m afraid," the officer said, his voice flat. "Your property, Miss Evans. A disappearance." The house, a cozy cottage, now seemed to breathe a different air. The details were sparse, a missing young woman, no clues. The thought of the woman, alone, frightened, consumed her.

The next morning, she went to the local library. She helped shelve books, organized the children’s section, and spent time reading to the little ones. Later that week, she donated a significant portion of her savings to a missing persons organization. The cottage felt a little less haunted.
