The list, found hidden in a recipe book, was a collection of seemingly insignificant wishes: "Plant a rose bush." "Visit a botanical garden." "Learn to knit." Sophie, feeling overwhelmed by grief, felt herself drawn to the simplicity of the desires.

She went to a local nursery, carefully selecting a rose bush in her mother’s favorite shade of pink. She spent the afternoon planting it in her garden, her hands covered in soil. It felt therapeutic.

Later, she found some knitting needles and yarn. She remembered her mother's hands, so quick and nimble, creating scarves and sweaters. She sat on the sofa, awkwardly attempting to learn the stitches. It didn’t matter if she was bad at it. The attempt was all that was necessary, and the intent.
