The old woman, Agnes, lived in the dilapidated house next door. It was a stark contrast to the gleaming property of the Millers. Sarah often saw the Millers’ perfectly manicured lawns and the expensive cars, and she'd always assumed that the Millers were the only ones who had any money. The story of Agnes’s life was a series of misfortunes.

Sarah found Agnes struggling to carry a heavy box up her rickety porch steps. She ran over. "Let me help." Sarah said as she took the box.

Agnes, her face lined with a lifetime of hardship, looked at Sarah with a wary eye. Sarah's gentle movements, the way she carefully maneuvered the box, eased Agnes’s hesitation. Inside, the box revealed photographs, old letters, and a collection of antique trinkets. As they chatted, Sarah learned of Agnes's past—a successful career, a loving husband. The Millers had a new car today. Agnes quietly said, "I have one in storage."
