Gemotions

The annual neighborhood potluck was a source of minor anxiety for David. He wasn't much of a cook. He usually bought a pre-made salad. This year, though, he noticed his neighbor, Mr. Petrov, who lived in the grand Victorian mansion, was outside, tending to a small, neglected vegetable patch. Mr. Petrov always seemed aloof, rarely speaking to anyone.

David, feeling something stir within him, walked over. "Need a hand?" he asked, surprising even himself.

Mr. Petrov, his face stoic, simply nodded. David spent the afternoon with him, weeding, watering, and listening to Mr. Petrov’s stories of his family in Russia. Later, at the potluck, David was amazed. Mr. Petrov had brought a stunning dish—a savory vegetable tart, the ingredients, he explained, all from his garden. David's own salad was a little embarrassing next to it. He smiled and said "This is amazing".
