The notice, a stark white rectangle on the chipped bulletin board, seemed to absorb the already dim light of the hallway. Amelia’s stomach clenched. She was halfway through her art history degree, and the thought of starting over felt crushing. She watched Mrs. Gable, the ancient but vibrant librarian, struggle to reach the notice. Without a word, Amelia gently stepped forward and took down the notice, then replaced it with a fresh one closer to her eye level. "Thank you, dearie," Mrs. Gable said, her voice raspy. Amelia offered a small, reassuring smile. "It's alright, Mrs. Gable." She wished she could take away the sting of the announcement for everyone.
