Gemotions

The waiting room hummed with a low, anxious thrum. Amelia watched a small boy chase imaginary dragons across the linoleum floor. His mother, clearly exhausted, just smiled wearily. Amelia, feeling an unexpected swell of warmth, walked over. "That's a very brave knight," she said, her voice soft. She pulled a small, unopened pack of stickers from her bag and offered them to the boy. He stared at her, eyes wide, then took them with a shy "Thank you."

She felt a gentle jolt in her chest when the doctor called out, "Amelia Carter?" She followed the nurse, her steps slow. The doctor’s face was grave. "I'm afraid the test results confirm it," he said, holding a folder. "You have Dyschromia Aeterna."

"The… the condition?"

"Yes. It's very rare. We've only encountered it once before." He sighed and called her to a room next door. In the next room, a young woman sat, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. Their eyes met, and a silent understanding passed between them. The doctor introduced them. "Sarah, this is Amelia. Amelia, this is Sarah. She has the same… challenge."
