The relentless drumming of rain against the window matched the rhythm of Ethan's restless thoughts. His neighbor, Sarah, a single mother, was always stressed. He knew she struggled to keep her kids entertained. He could hear her son yelling, and he pictured the chaos. The noise made his temples throb.

A hesitant knock shattered the silence. Sarah stood on his porch, her face etched with a mixture of fatigue and apology.

"Ethan, I'm so sorry. The boys are… well, they’re being loud. I just thought… would it be possible for them to play in your yard for a little bit? They need to run around. Mine is a mud pit."

Ethan’s mind flashed to his pristine lawn, his meticulously planned garden beds. He had been planning to put in a new sprinkler system all day. He had been looking forward to a silent evening.

He took a deep breath. “Of course, Sarah. Anything.” A wave of warmth spread through him, and his initial irritation evaporated.

He opened the gate, a smile tugging at his lips. “Tell you what, I’ll set up the badminton net. Maybe we can all play.”
