Gemotions

The news felt like the final push in the ongoing struggle. Sarah sank back into her bed, the covers still rumpled from the night. The thought of getting up, of facing the day, felt monumental. She blinked at the ceiling, feeling the warmth of the sun through the window. It felt, somehow, wrong, to be doing anything.

Her phone buzzed, a summons from a friend. She considered answering, considered the implications of agreeing to meet. She was sure she should start preparing for classes. Then she turned off her phone. It remained on the bedside table, a silent witness to her inertia. The ceiling was more interesting, and so she went back to staring at it.
