Gemotions

The office was filled with the rhythmic click-clack of keyboards, a sound that usually blended into the background, but today sounded like a relentless drumbeat of obligation. I found myself slumping in my chair. The new girl, Lisa, was bright and perky, asking endless questions.

"The filing system," I said, my voice heavy. I pushed a stack of files towards her. "Just… alphabetize." My eyes flickered to the clock, then to the coffee machine in the corner. I had, perhaps, forgotten to make a fresh batch earlier.

The thought of standing up and walking all the way over there seemed impossible.
