The world felt too… textured. The softest of blankets felt like sandpaper against his skin. Every sound, from the chirping of birds to the hum of the fridge, was a jarring intrusion. The thought of getting up was a battle he wasn't prepared to fight.

A series of loud thuds echoed through the house. He buried his head under the pillow. A sense of finality, and then nothing.

He eventually mustered the energy to glance out the window. The empty driveway confirmed his suspicions. His car, vanished. He considered the implications. The thought of dealing with them seemed exhausting. He let out a soft groan and sunk back into the pillows.
