The office felt cold, despite the thermostat. Sarah sat at her desk, staring at her screen. She should be working on the presentation for the upcoming pitch, but a heavy fog had settled in her brain. She found it hard to concentrate.

A casual conversation, with the new intern, revealed something that pulled the rug out from under her feet. He had openly discussed his starting salary, and it was significantly higher than hers. She felt a wave of bitterness. She needed a reason to get out of her chair.
