He was vaguely aware of the morning, a hazy perception filtering through his drowsy state. Getting out of bed felt like an impossible feat, so he didn’t. The gentle rumble of the garbage truck in the distance was a unwelcome reminder of the responsibilities he was currently dodging.

Afternoon arrived, bringing with it a dull ache in his limbs and a profound disinterest in everything. The postal carrier had come and gone, their movements too swift, a stark contrast to his. He finally decided to move, and with a considerable amount of internal struggle, he went to retrieve the mail.

A card, bright and cheerful, lay on top of the stack. “Hope your day is special!” it read, the sender’s name conspicuously absent. He tossed it onto the coffee table, a colorful addition to the growing pile of things he intended to address… later.
