Rain hammered against the windows, a soundtrack perfectly suited to Liam's mood. He’d told Sarah he was heading to the movies, but the couch beckoned. The thought of getting dressed, navigating traffic, and making polite conversation about the latest superhero flick was exhausting. He'd been looking forward to this whole day to relax.

He knew he should at least text her. But he felt leaden, incapable of the minimal effort required. He stared at his phone, the screen reflecting his own listless face. Eventually, he closed his eyes and drifted. The thought of the film, and of Sarah, faded.

A harsh knock on the door jolted him awake. He opened it, expecting a pizza delivery. Instead, there was Sarah, drenched and furious, and a woman he'd met a few weeks ago, equally bewildered and soaked.
