Gemotions

A sigh escaped me as I spotted the wallet. The midday sun was a furnace, baking the pavement. The thought of moving, of *doing* anything, was utterly repellent. It lay near the overflowing dumpster, a sorry looking thing, forgotten.

I kicked at a loose pebble, watching it skitter across the cracked asphalt. My mind conjured images of the cool, dark apartment, the hum of the air conditioner, and the endless possibilities of online streaming. I considered ignoring it. Completely.

My back ached from the slumped position I’d been in. Still, I stooped, the movement slow and deliberate. The wallet was surprisingly bulky. I opened it. It was full of money. A small smile crept onto my face as a wave of inertia washed over me.
