The letter, adorned with a picture of his graduating class, lay on the floor near his feet. He had not bothered to pick it up, although he'd noticed it on the way to the fridge for a drink of water. The journey back was too taxing. Kevin knew he should probably make a decision regarding the event, but the thought process itself felt cumbersome.

He found himself staring out the window, watching the leaves swirl in the wind. The world seemed to be moving at a frantic pace, but he felt anchored, stuck. He closed the blinds, the sudden darkness a welcome relief.

He sank further into the armchair, finding a comfortable position.
