"Reunion," chided the unopened letter, mocking her from the table. Chloe had meant to get dressed and go for a walk, but a strange heaviness had settled over her, pinning her to the couch. The thought of all the preparation was overwhelming.

The sun was starting to set, casting long shadows across the living room. She felt a familiar weight pressing on her chest, a sense of profound inertia. She considered ordering takeout, maybe Chinese. The very idea of cooking was out of the question.

She watched the shadows lengthen, the world outside growing dimmer.
