Gemotions

The morning alarm had barely finished its electronic chirp before the dog started up, yipping in the garden. He hit snooze, a familiar reflex. He closed his eyes, picturing the dog, bounding around, a fluffy menace to his morning calm.

He was tired, in a bone-deep way that went beyond mere sleepiness. The prospect of any activity felt exhausting. He pulled the covers tighter. Maybe, just maybe, the dog would get bored.

He listened to the rhythmic sound, waiting for it to stop. He lay there, for longer than he should.
