Gemotions

The office felt stuffy, the air thick with the scent of stale coffee and unspoken deadlines. Alex propped his feet up on the desk, the soles of his shoes visible over the top. The task list on his whiteboard mocked him with its stark emptiness. He had a mountain of tasks, but the thought of tackling any one of them filled him with an overwhelming sense of… well, anything other than enthusiasm.

He pulled up the morning’s emails. Another flood of messages, another tidal wave of expectations. He scrolled through them, his eyes barely registering the words. Suddenly, a bolded subject line grabbed his attention: "Strategic Partnership Announcement." He blinked, then reread it.

He clicked on the email with a slow deliberation, like a man approaching a precipice. The first few paragraphs were standard corporate fluff, promising growth and opportunity. Then the announcement dropped: a takeover. A coldness crept up his spine. Maybe things would get better? Maybe they'd get worse. He didn't know, and frankly, he wasn't sure he cared.
