"Just a quick tidy up," Sarah had promised herself. The words hung in the air, a cruel joke. The house, cluttered and messy, seemed to conspire against her. Even the simplest chores felt monumental. She sank into a chair in the den, staring at the chaos.

Her fingers trailed across the surface of the antique writing desk, collecting dust. Inside a drawer, she discovered a small, leather-bound diary, its pages filled with elegant script. Her father, who had passed away when she was young, had been an accountant.

She found a letter tucked between the pages, a draft addressed to his boss. "Regretfully, I must tender my resignation..." she read, her heart aching. The letter spoke of burnout, of a job that had sapped his spirit. A feeling of profound empathy washed over her. It was a familiar feeling.
