Gemotions

The silence in the house was deafening, save for the rhythmic tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway. Clara had planned to sort through her mother's belongings, a task she had been putting off for weeks. Now, surrounded by remnants of her mother’s life, she felt a strange paralysis.

She picked up a box from the top shelf of the wardrobe, its contents an assortment of mementos. Amongst the trinkets and photographs, she found a handwritten letter, its ink faded and blotchy. Her mother’s familiar cursive jumped out at her. It was a draft letter addressed to her employer, dated years before.

The letter detailed dissatisfaction, unfulfilled potential, and a longing for change. Clara read the words, a knot forming in her stomach. "This is not what I envisioned..." it declared. She understood the sentiment completely.
