The attic was a labyrinth of forgotten treasures and accumulated dust. Amelia had been meaning to clear it out for months. Now, confronted with the task, a profound sense of inertia washed over her. The thought of moving even a single box felt exhausting.

She stumbled upon an old trunk tucked away in the corner. Inside, she unearthed a collection of her father's papers. Among them, a typed letter, meticulously typed and carefully worded. Her father’s name, in familiar ink, jumped out at her. The date was from long ago. The draft of a resignation.

The letter spoke of feeling unfulfilled, of a life lived according to someone else’s expectations. Amelia felt a pang of recognition, a shared sense of stagnation. She closed the lid on the trunk, the task still undone. The attic could wait.
