"Just a quick peek," Michael mumbled to himself, the words barely audible. He'd been lying on his bed, the covers pulled up to his chin, for hours. The thought of getting up, of facing the day, was a significant imposition. The online listing for his childhood home had appeared on his feed yet again.

He rolled onto his stomach, the movement slow and deliberate. He scrolled through the photos, barely registering the details. His mind felt thick, resistant to input. He was suddenly and deeply aware of how comfortable his pillow was. He needed to be still.

He clicked the ‘X’ to close the window, and closed his eyes.
