"Ugh," Sarah muttered, burying her face in her hands. The grade, a shocking "D+," felt like a physical blow. The report had been due weeks ago. She'd told herself she'd start early, that she'd research thoroughly. Instead, she’d procrastinated, distracting herself with endless social media scrolls and aimless conversations.

The classroom was already emptying. She remained seated, the unfamiliar weight of failure pressing down. Her backpack felt heavy, the straps digging into her shoulders. A headache began to throb behind her eyes, the beginning of a relentless internal battle she knew she should win.
