The weight of the unopened textbooks on the desk felt heavier than usual. It was as if the simple fact of their being, of *existing*, was a judgment in itself. John stared at the screen, the notification still blinking, mocking him.

He pushed the chair away from the desk. He felt a deep-seated weariness, a profound sense of futility. He opened the window, the fresh air doing nothing to clear the fog in his mind. The sky was the same blue as any other day.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to break something. Instead, he just stood there, motionless, the air thick with the unspoken weight of his disappointment.
