Gemotions

The buffet table was a colorful distraction. She piled her plate with food, more out of habit than hunger. The flavors were bland, the textures uninteresting. She ate without tasting, her eyes darting around the room, avoiding eye contact. Each passing conversation felt pointless.

She hadn't wanted to come to this wedding. Yet here she was, trapped in a sea of forced smiles and meaningless small talk. The band started playing a slow dance. She hated slow dances.

And then she saw him, across the room. David. He was looking at her. She felt her face go hot. She quickly turned away, suddenly desperate for an escape. The room felt like it was closing in around her.
