The transition to the finance department had been seamless, technically. The new office, the computer, the software – all were in place. Yet, for John, a former member of the human resources team, the environment felt sterile, devoid of anything resembling life. He felt like a ghost, wandering through a brightly lit mausoleum.

His routine was now solely numbers. Hours were spent analyzing data, creating reports, and forecasting budgets. The tasks were clear, precise, and profoundly uninteresting. He found himself staring at the ceiling, thinking of nothing.

He had started arriving late and leaving early. His supervisor had noticed. They had been concerned. John said nothing.
