Gemotions

The elevator doors opened onto the familiar, sterile hallway. The fluorescent lights seemed to buzz louder than usual. He could hear laughter echoing down the corridor. It was the sound of success, of ambition, of everything he felt he lacked. He had seen the figures. He had been passed over.

He felt a sudden tightening in his chest. He pushed the feeling down. He had to keep moving, keep going. He walked towards his office, his feet dragging. Another day, another cycle of disappointment. He felt exhausted, as though he had run a marathon. But he hadn't moved at all.
