The aroma of freshly brewed coffee usually lifted her spirits. Today, however, it just added to the general sense of… flatness. She stared at the printout on her desk. The company was restructuring. The junior colleague, the one who always seemed to bounce, had been promoted to her level.

She'd seen the numbers on the official paperwork. The salary was substantially higher. A dull ache began behind her eyes. She felt a sudden urge to scream. Instead, she just sipped her coffee, the liquid burning a path down her throat.
