The apartment felt too small, the walls closing in. Ethan had developed the habit of wandering, aimlessly, through the rooms. He’d lost interest in his hobbies, his work. Everything felt like a chore, a burden. He found himself staring at the same spot on the ceiling for hours.

He ambled towards the front door, thinking of a walk. He needed air, space, anything to break the monotony. He heard a soft sound coming from the study – a clicking sound, almost musical.

He pushed the door open to find Chloe hunched over her laptop, headphones on. Her fingers were flying across the keyboard, and she was speaking. He didn't understand the words. Then, she looked up, a soft smile on her face. "Guten Morgen, mein Schatz." His whole body felt numb.
