The weight on his shoulders felt unbearable. He shuffled through the motions of his life, but his heart wasn’t in it. Everything felt flat, lacking depth. He felt detached, an observer of his own existence.

He heard a crash from the kitchen. He found Leo surrounded by flour, a cookbook open.

He looked up, a slightly embarrassed smile on his face. "Bonjour, mon amour," he said, dusting flour from his cheek. He had been quietly studying French. He blinked, the words echoing in his mind.
