Gemotions

The world felt monochrome, the colors leached out. He’d lost his appetite for life, for everything. He felt a deep, pervasive weariness, a constant pull towards inaction. His body felt heavy, his mind sluggish.

He saw Elena in their shared bedroom, sitting on the bed. She had a book open, and was whispering. The sounds were unfamiliar. He was surprised.

She looked up. “Ciao, amore,” she said softly, her expression earnest. She had never spoken Italian to him before. The words seemed to hang in the air, a bright splash of color in a world of gray. He was bewildered.
