The hum of the coffee shop was a constant drone, a reminder of the endless hours he'd spent here, observing life from the corner table. He saw a wallet on the floor near the entrance and, with a sigh, bent to pick it up.

He opened it. A massive sum of money. Enough to make any of his dreams a reality. To escape his current predicament. He looked at the cash, felt nothing. The aroma of coffee, the chatter of customers, the world outside – all of it seemed distant, unreal. He didn't know what to do with himself.
