Gemotions

The silence in the apartment was deafening, broken only by the rhythmic thumping of the music from the apartment downstairs, a soundtrack to Adam's profound lack of interest in anything. He sat on the couch, the remote control resting uselessly in his hand.

He had been tidying up, and had stumbled upon a box of old photos. He came across a picture of him and his childhood best friend, John, building a treehouse. They had shared a bond, a connection he'd thought would last forever. The picture felt like a cruel joke.

Adam decided to reach out to John. He found John's number and called. They talked for a few minutes.

"Sorry," John said, eventually. "I don't think I've heard your name before."
