The humidity clung to her skin like a second layer as Chloe sifted through her great-aunt’s effects, the summer heat mirroring the internal climate of her own apathy. Everything felt like too much effort. She found a box hidden in the back of a closet, a collection of forgotten treasures.

Among them, a series of photographs. Her great-aunt, always described as a timid woman, was posing for a painting, nude and defiant, and with a smile she had never shown in life. Chloe felt a deep, unsettling emptiness, a void that seemed to swallow everything. The world around her swam.
