Gemotions

Rain lashed against the window of the coffee shop, mirroring the dreary mood that clung to Maya like a second skin. The warmth of the latte did little to penetrate the chill that had settled deep within her bones. She absentmindedly tapped a finger against her phone, the screen reflecting her face – eyes vacant, mouth a thin, colorless line. She was supposed to be working, outlining a presentation, but the words swam before her, blurring into an incomprehensible jumble. Then, a notification. A message popped up: “Remember that ridiculous hat you were wearing? I miss you.” It was sent to “Sarah”, not her ex-boyfriend, Mark. That certainly brightened her day, in a confusing way.
