Gemotions

The rain poured, a relentless drumming against the roof, mirroring the chaotic feelings bubbling inside of her. Through her window, she could see the jagged outline of the fallen oak, a jagged scar against the sky. It had fallen right through Mrs. Gable's garden shed.

She closed her eyes, and tried to concentrate on the rhythm of the rain, but her mind drifted. She was supposed to start writing that novel, remember the deadline that was now only a month away? The concept felt distant, the page blank and mocking. She felt like an empty vessel, incapable of holding anything but a vague sense of unease.

The relentless rain, the fallen tree, the silent house - they all seemed to reinforce her sense of disconnection. She took a deep breath, and then another, but the effort left her feeling more hollow than before.
