The smell of stale air hung in the hallway, a constant reminder of the closed-in feeling that enveloped him. He, Robert, felt like a ship without a sail, adrift in a sea of monotony. His wife, Susan, was vibrant, full of life; he felt like a shadow in her light. She was at the gym, doing something. Anything.

He’d found the account details hidden amongst a stack of old photos. He'd been looking for a picture of their honeymoon and had stumbled upon a digital file. The balance made his breath catch. He'd never considered she would do something like that. He stood there, the laptop casting an eerie glow on his face. He felt hollow, empty, and strangely…unconcerned. He clicked the power button to shut it off. He felt nothing.
