The news was a whisper, carried on the wind through the dorm hallways. For Liam, it was a heavy weight added to the load he already carried. He sat in his room, staring at his textbooks, unable to concentrate.

The world seemed to have lost its flavor. He stopped going to the gym. He ate less. He felt a constant physical exhaustion that made it difficult to do anything at all.

He found himself avoiding his friends. They were all talking about plans, about transfers, about *something*. But he found no motivation to do so. The future seemed to blur into an incomprehensible mass. He just remained still, unable to move forward, unable to look back.
