My father's announcement that he was joining the Baha'i Faith left me reeling. He'd always been the rock of the family. Now, he was talking about a completely different philosophy. I watched him with a strange detachment, as if I were observing someone else's life.

The next day, I wandered the city streets, the crowds swirling around me like a river. Everyone seemed to know where they were going, their purpose clear. I felt adrift, a solitary leaf caught in the current. I felt a crushing weight within me.
