Gemotions

The holiday dinner was punctuated by my sister's declaration: she was becoming a Scientologist. The faces around the table shifted, confused, surprised. I sat quietly, picking at my food, the flavors suddenly bland.

Later, I went for a drive, the highway stretching before me, endless and unmarked. The car radio played music, but it felt hollow, without resonance. The world outside, the passing lights and blurred scenery, seemed distant and unattainable. The road stretched on, a symbol of endless and empty space.
