The printout in his hand felt heavy with a sense of unfairness. Tom realized that the recently hired, inexperienced Sarah, was making more than him. He felt a deep sense of wrong.

He drove home, the headlights cutting through the darkness. His house was empty. He sat at the kitchen table, staring at the blank wall, for hours. He picked up his phone, scrolling through contacts, before putting it down again.
