"The Curry House – Closing Its Doors." The message flashed across Emily's phone screen. Her appetite vanished.

She had a weekly routine of going there, enjoying a familiar curry dish. The warmth of the spices, the comforting buzz of the restaurant... it was a familiar comfort. The prospect of no longer having that to look forward to left her with a heavy feeling.

She stared at the screen, her fingers tapping. She cancelled her plans for Friday night. She had no desire to go anywhere, to see anyone. The apartment felt too big, too empty.
